Proofreading/Cold reading: Proofreading is the final stage in the editing process for a novel, focusing on correcting minor errors such as typos, punctuation mistakes, and inconsistencies in grammar or spelling. It is the last step before publication, ensuring that the text is polished and ready for the reader. Fee: 1¢/word.
Proofreading is only effective once a manuscript has undergone thorough copyediting, and I only proofread projects that also come with a complete style sheet and word list. This ensures that the text has been refined for clarity, flow, and overall consistency, and that the potential for errors is minimized.
Depending on your publishing plans, I can proofread either the MS Word manuscript before it has been typeset for printing or the PDF galley proof, which is the final version of your book that has been typeset for print (if you are publishing a paperback or hardback), ensuring that no errors have been introduced during the typesetting process.
Project Consulting: If you have general questions and need to pick the brain of someone with industry experience, I’m glad to help. My consulting fee is $60/hour or $40/half hour.
